Privilege.

I like how on the internet people like to call out others on their privilege. Which is fine, but is really awkward when the assumption of privilege is just that- an assumption.

I think being implicated in the FA movement, has exposed me to types of privilege I didn’t even know existed. “PRETTY FATS” “PROPORTIONAL FATS” “EDUCATED FATS” “IN-BETWEENIE FATS”

At the end of the day…aren’t we all just fat? Cause I’m pretty sure creating a hierarchy of FAT is somewhat self-defeating.

In addition to those “fat-associated” privileges, I’ve been called privileged because of my (alleged) copious amount of wealth and ability to obtain a university degree. The prior privilege…I have no idea where that even stems from, and the latter is a privilege YES, but I don’t exactly see why its often used as the basis of attacking someone.

At the end of the day I am privileged- but I am also not. I’m a fat, female Muslim mintority- which on the “privilege ladder” comes at the bottom of many. My privilege is my own, and for the most part my followers know little about how it is excersied  in terms of my daily benefit or disbenefit.

So before you call me, or others out on their privilege, please realize that doing so is either largely offensive, is wrong, or doesn’t even serve as a proper means of getting your argument accross the majority of the time.

Thanks.
